"Of Ruins and Shadows"

I was intrigued by the designs of the lovely shadows in this photo and thought it had potential for a painting if I could fill the shadows with color. Again, I'm almost pleased with the result. It's so very close. Perhaps it just lacks it's "muchness" (we're watching Alice in Wonderland while I ponder if there's anything left to be done with the painting. Johnny Depp is phenomenal). I don't know. If I did more, I think I would probably ruin it by overpainting. Dilemma indeed. Any thoughts?

  1. I love the background/ruins part of it. I think I'm disliking the floor. Maybe because it is plain above the shadows? I dunno but I know I love all of your paintings. If you ever wanna send me any of your paintings of Italy I'd love to take them!

  2. Certainly, shadows are very interesting to paint. There are different opinions about what proportion of shadows is necessary to put in a painting.I like what you have done.
    Jhonny Depp not too much.

  3. I think it's beautiful just as it is! I personally, really like the floor. I like the movement in the pattern and the variety of values. Well done!
